No one said that Literature Evangelism would be easy, let alone for a young high school student during the steamy summer months in Georgia. Jared Freeman, had just finished his junior year at Georgia-Cumberland Academy, having signed up for another summer of LE work. On this particular humid day, Jared was regretting his decision that he had made to sign up again for another round. The sun was blistering and he was just finishing walking through an industrial park, head hung low as the day dragged on. Jared had only earned $6.00 in sales so far that entire time and was beyond discouraged. Stopping to pray on that burning asphalt, he bowed his head imploring the Lord for encouragement. Minutes later, stepping into a large reception area, Jared was quickly led by a friendly young woman into the office of the Chief Executive Officer. Most people would have squirmed with anxiety at such an entrance, but Jared was equipped for moments such as these thanks to the training given by the LE coordinators. Over the next 30 minutes after being bombarded by questions, the CEO swiveled around in her chair, rose and then strode over to Jared extending her hand out. In her palm was a donation check for $500.00. She then purchased an additional 10-15 Steps to Christ to be given out later that day. The business woman was impressed that this young man would have the audacity and character to "pound the pavement" with the good news of Jesus Christ door to door when many young people would be sitting at home with the air conditioning on high and the gaming console in hand. Jared left that office not only encouraged, but renewed in his faith and foundation that the Lord had called him to be a literature evangelist that summer once again.
Thank you for supporting our young people and the work of spreading the gospel through your financial support and prayers. Do you know a student or young person that would be enriched by a summer of canvasing? The Georgia-Cumberland Conference has an amazing program dedicated for our young people preparing them for leadership and ministry. .
By the way, the story doesn't end there. After an amazing summer, Jared colportuered again during this past spring break and in just a few days, sold over $1,300.00 worth of materials, being able to keep ½ of the funds for his continuing education. Not only was this an excellent income earning spring break for Jared, he was also able to share the good news to many in need of the Gospel. Today, Let us remember Jeremiah 17:7 "…blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him" NIV. We give thanks for young people like Jared who are continuing to spread the everlasting message of Salvation.
